The history of one peasant family in the 20th century. The film is built out of photographs - it is a sort of cinematic family photo album. The film consists of 10 chapters (Grandma's House, Song, Wedding, Defenders of the Fatherland, Loneliness, etc.). Each chapter is a milestone in the life of every peasant family - from Vologda, Tambov, to Tver.
