A struggling young writer, determined never to write a melodramatic romance novel, finds himself forced to compromise his ideals just to make ends meet. In the end, he reluctantly takes on the very kind of clichéd, over-the-top romance he despises. The world of his novel follows every melodramatic cliché in the book: a noble and kind—but rather foolish—aristocrat, a sweet but stubborn heroine, a jealous aunt and her daughter, a bizarre will, a disguise so obvious it should be impossible to miss, misunderstandings that could never realistically be mistaken for anything else, and countless other ridiculous tropes of melodrama. But then, the young writer discovers something unexpected… The two worlds he thought were separate are about to collide—and the reality of their collision is even more melodramatic than the novel itself.
